Montepulciano
2008
$22
Appearance: A very light ruby in color and very light in body.
Nose: Light and almost absent on the nose. Just a touch of cherry
Pallet: Bland with no real character. The taste is vine-y with earth and granite the most prevalent. A rubber note on the back end is best described as band aid.
Finish: Synthetic and unpleasant. Similar to licking a bicycle tire.
Overall: This wine was bottled and labeled with ‘Twilight’ in honor the new movie series. It was released at the Twilight Ball just before the second movie debut. I tried very hard not to completely hate this wine. I tried two samples from two different bottles but with no luck. This is a sub-par wine with nothing going on for it other than it being red and being labeled as a wine. Very disappointed.
San Gimignano, Italy
2008
Served alongside the Twilight Montepulciano at the Twilight Ball Kathryn and I recently attended.
Appearance: Completely void of color. Not very substantial in body either. Could easily have been confused with water.
Nose: None. Absolutely nothing on the nose. Once again, if i had not watched it being poured i would have assumed it was water.
Pallet: The #1 worst white wines I have even tasted. Dirty tap water with a light sting of vinegar and nothing noteworthy following that.
Finish: Vinegar and sadness
Overall: I am absolutely embarrassed for whoever chose to serve this wine. I do my best to give every wine the benefit of the doubt but this wine superseded what I knew as bad wine. Don’t waste your time or your $6 a glass. I could get 100 gallons of tap water for $6 and definitely enjoy it more.
